Final Blog

I am going to be perfectly honest about this blog. The instructions explicitly say to tell about your experiences. My first thought is that I really feel like this class was a "self teach" class. Yet we still had to come to class. I was looking forward to it because the students who took it semesters before said they learned a lot. I feel like what I did learn was from being repetitious or having no choice but to ask others and teach myself. Which was kind of a let down considering most of the criteria is much of what I want to incorporate in my future classroom. With that being said, I did learn about blogging, which I had never done before now. I learned how to communicate with other teachers and students all over the world through blogging. Not to mention, following blogs as part of my PLN. I will continue to blog and incorporate it into my own classroom one day. I did sign up for a wiki- space and participated a few time but I doubt I will continue doing so. The presentations were pretty much the same as doing a power point presentation except for the fact that it is stored in your google docs. The podcast, honestly I did not care for. I did like the Comments for Kids because it reminded you of how innocent children's mind's are and how much they are learning and how much they have to be proud of. However the Comments for Teachers, i could live without. The comments for classmates was a joke sometimes because more weeks than not, I had nothing to comment on. Many students did not complete their blog assignments on time in order for us to complete our comments for them. I did use iTunesU, because that was involved in our podcast topic. Google forms is a neat feature although many classmates didn't participate. Google Earth was very interesting to me and I am sure I will use it in my classroom. I am very excited to actually. There are so many things and ways to teach and use Google Earth in the classroom for any subject.
I am not really sure how and if this class changed me as a professional. I feel like most of what I learned was taught by me so it was the way I had to learn, not the many ways to teach it. I felt very rushed in this class and like I couldn't really get the point before we were on another project. It was scattered and I feel like all the teachers were not on the same page. I tried and did give it my all and I have spent a lot of time on my work for this class. I am thankful for what I did learn because it was more than i knew prior to the class. Am I a Technologically Literate student? Yes, I would say medium level. I've always been the type "if I don't know the answer, I will find it" so I feel like I will be okay and continue to teach myself through trial and error.

  1. I agree with you, this class was like a "self-teach" class. I wish we would have been able to learn a lot more about how to make movies and things like that rather than blog about other people's movies.

  2. Yes, it was a "self-teach" class, as I discussed in the first two videos. You will increasingly find that YOU will be responsible for what you learn. When you get into the real world you will know with great certainty that that is the way you will have to live your life if you continue to participate in a profession such as teaching. You say later on that you are comfortable with "learning on your own when you write: "I've always been the type "if I don't know the answer, I will find it" so I feel like I will be okay and continue to teach myself through trial and error." So what's your issue? That you had to come to class? We are making all labs optional next semester. That may get even more students into trouble. We shall see!

I'm not much on wikis either.

I hope comments4kids also was useful in practicing to be a teacher.

"However the Comments for Teachers, i could live without. " fascinating!

"The comments for classmates was a joke sometimes because more weeks than not, I had nothing to comment on. Many students did not complete their blog assignments on time in order for us to complete our comments for them." Did you learn anything about student behavior? You will be faced with students who do not do their work on time on a regular basis if you become a teacher. What do you do? Approve of not meeting deadlines? Not very good preparation for the world of word? Approve of not doing assignments? I would not recommend that as a good strategy for preparing your students for a world of work either.

That's the main way all of us learn: "The comments for classmates was a joke sometimes because more weeks than not, I had nothing to comment on. Many students did not complete their blog assignments on time in order for us to complete our comments for them." Kids included. As teachers we have to provide the opportunities for supervised explorations which provide learning opportunities through trail and error!

  3. Amber,

I appreciate you coming to class and participating. Try and take the positives with you when you become a teacher. Also, keep in mind that students are going to be pessimistic and it is your job to try and get them to learn by being positive and supportive.
